CHRISTMAS COCKTAIL

We hosted our dessert party the other weekend and as I mentioned in my blog post a few weeks ago, I wanted to serve a festive cocktail. I saw a recipe from Martha Stewart for a Sparkling Pear and Cranberry Cocktail and knew it would be perfect for the party and the season. I, of course, modified it a bit. I sent my husband out to buy the Moscato d'Asti that the recipe calls for but unfortunately he could not find it. So he bought another type of Moscato---one that didn't have any fizz to it. I discovered this only after he brought it home and luckily we had a bottle of Cava [typically less expensive than Champagne]  already iced in the fridge to use for the bubble factor. I also decided I wanted to pre-make a batch of the cocktail rather than continually having to make glass after glass of it during the course of the party. I wanted to be able to have fun and eat the desserts too! The next part was all experimental. In a large glass pitcher, I poured one bottle of Cava, one bottle of the Moscato, one bottle of pear nectar and stirred! It tasted delicious! I threw in some cranberries and rosemary sprigs into the pitcher. They are really for garnish. I set the pitcher out on our bar with champagne flutes for guests to take and enjoy on their own. So simple. I recommend this cocktail for the Christmas holiday and even for New Years!
