My husband and I are lucky to live within a stone's throw from a lot of restaurant gems in the East Village. One of them is Root & Bone. It has been on my "Places To Try" list for quite some time and we finally dined there the other week. It did not disappoint. We went on a snowy day so it was the ideal place to be as they are known for their comforting Southern comfort food. The exterior is as bright as the interior with white painted exposed brick. I especially love the tin ceiling which, in a silver tone, adds more brightness to the space. The décor is eclectic with mismatched plates and flea market finds. Root & Bone also has lovely pickled wood throughout---on the bistro tables, doors and storage units. It adds to the warmth of the place. You definitely feel inspired to take on some DIY projects after glimpsing at their light fixtures. The main dining room has Edison bulbs hanging at various levels from salvaged wood panels. The best is the bar's fixture---vintage, cut-glass whiskey decanters with bulbs inside! You may have seen another picture of this fixture on my Instagram. It is absolutely amazing. Now, I don't know how easy it was to make this statement fixture but after seeing it, I definitely was inspired to figure out how! Too bad we don't have a glass cutting machine in our apartment. But we do have plenty of whiskey...
