BOUCHEROUITE AND AZILIL RUGS

I know. I has been over two months since my last post. Work was overwhelming me and I just wasn't able to dedicate as much time to my blog as I would like to. I know it's a poor excuse---especially for a newly minted 'blogger' but it's the truth. I just returned from a much needed vacation to Morocco and I am back feeling inspired, relaxed and renewed! Morocco was certainly a vacation of a lifetime. It was on the top of my list of destinations to visit and I am so blessed and happy that I got to visit such a beautiful and dynamic country. Just like India, it is a country where your mind is on sensory overload. With the people, colors, architecture and landscapes every moment was an Instagrammer | Photographer's dream. I have proof as I was on Instagram overload while I was there. You can see on my Instagram handle: @lifestyledbyserena. While we were there, my husband and I learned about the handicrafts of Morocco one of which is rug making. Even if you have no need for a rug, you need to buy a Moroccan rug if you visit! Otherwise you will regret it! You will find a place for it at some point in your life! The pride, hours and sweat that goes into a Moroccan rug is so special that it is essentially a piece of art. There are several types of rugs made by Morocco's primary inhabitants---the Berber people. One of my favorite Berber rug types is the Boucherouite and the Azilil. Typically composed of vibrant colors, these rugs have a medium pile and are very soft to the feet. The patterns on them vary and can be different than the diamond print found on the ever so popular Ben Ourain rugs---probably the most mass produced of the Berber rugs. If you cannot make your way to Morocco there are some Etsy dealers that source these rugs directly from Morocco. No two are the same so that makes them even more amazing.
