In April 2013 my husband and I went to Hong Kong to celebrate the wedding of my friend, Patricia. My dear friend who introduced us! Since we were making the long journey to Asia from New York, we decided to extend our trip and spend some days in Thailand. We really wanted a beach vacation. I spent many, many days searching for the perfect resort in Phuket. But nothing fully met my criteria. Either the place was too expensive, did not have the best reviews or wasn't on the beach. Then one day I came across a flash sale on Jetsetter for Casa de la Flora in Khao Lak. I did some research on Khao Lak and learned that it was a beautiful area that was terribly devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and was about an hour away from busy Phuket. After reading many outstanding reviews of the resort, we decided to spend our Thailand vacation there. Since we booked the resort through Jetsetter, we got an unbeatable rate for their Duplex Grand Pool Villa. This two-story villa is featured in the image above. It was amazing. Not only was it spacious, but it had beautiful ocean views and was equipped with its own private pool. The resort has a terrific concierge, which they cleverly call their "Dream Maker." He arranged for us to take a private Thai cooking lesson at the property and to do elephant trekking. They were both memorable experiences. My husband and I also highly enjoyed this property because of its design. It has been recognized for its architectural elements and it stands out on the pristine beach that it sits on. As we think of those that were affected by the 2004 tsunami on its 10th anniversary, I especially wanted to highlight this property, Khao Lak and its people. The people of Khao Lak, including the staff of Casa de la Flora, were tremendously kind. They were so welcoming and we highly enjoyed ourselves in what was paradise.
