The fashion shows that debut the Spring|Summer Collections are notoriously known for having wonderful blooms incorporated into designers' presentations or runway shows. It is an obvious correlation. However, it is always refreshing to see flowers, branches and foliage enhance the Fall|Winter Collection shows. This past week in New York, designers Ulla Johnson, Adam Lippes, Rodarte and Elie Tahari brought some added drama to their presentations with interesting arrangements and displays.
For Ulla's gorgeous Fall 2015 collection, flower house, Saipua, created a stunning tonal backdrop that included: sweetpeas, tulips, pussy willow, roses and eucalyptus. The muted and soft tones of the flowers and greens complemented the clothes which were in an array of mauve, rust, burgundy, cream and other neutrals. A perfect pairing.
Not only did Putnam & Putnam create lush, gorgeous mantle arrangements for the Adam Lippes Fall 2015 presentation, but they even collaborated on a winter floral print that appears on a few pieces of the collection. So beautiful! The mantle arrangements certainly made a statement with a mix of poppies, fritillaria, roses and anemones and cascading ivy. I wish I could have been there in person to witness what looked like an amazing show all around.
Rodarte mixed bright tube lighting [which isn't flattering for anyone---except for models] with branches for a bold floorscape. It paired well with their 'bad-ass' clothes that had incredible edge to them. Sequins, feathery details, lace, leather which brought major 'tude---but the good kind. The innovative set was created by production company, Bureau Betak.
Lastly, Elie Tahari created what was hashtagged as 'ETUrbanForest'. And that it was. It looked like a magical meadow with the models, mostly in bold cobalt blue garments, resting amongst rocks, ferns and moss. It looked like 'Lord of the Rings' country in there. Loved it. You can get the full feel of the environment that he created by looking at his lookbook. So---let's see what London Fashion Week conjures up!
